I think it's largely due to differences in social classes, and their places on the Maslow heirarchy. Those people we deride as snowflakes are in the "Self-Actualization" part of the pyramid. The rest of us are in the security area. We tell them we have real problems, they talk down to us and focus on their identity issues. The problem has never been real to them, in their sheltered lives where they lived in a gated community and then went to a fancy college on daddy's money, so to them, it simply doesn't exist and all of us yahoos out here in flyover country must be imagining it. The rest of us live in a world where crime is a reality, drugs are a scourge, good jobs are hard to come by, and money doesn't grow on trees. Their priorities, and proposed solutions to our problems on the rare occasions we can get them to listen, come across as childish nonsense.
